Mid-point of the Project

Reaching the middle of your project is a natural moment to pause and look at how your experience has unfolded so far. By this time, you’ve already lived through many first impressions and learning moments. This stage invites you to step back, notice what you have collected so far and reflect on the ways you are contributing to the project and the community around you.

It’s also an opportunity to observe how you’re relating to the local culture - what feels inspiring and how these experiences are shaping your understanding of yourself and others. Taking time for this reflection can help you appreciate the progress you’ve made and clarify what you want to focus on during the remaining part of your stay.

Use the guiding questions below to explore your journey so far:

  • How have I changed since I arrived? Can I observe changes in my behaviour?
  • How have I surprised myself? What have I confirmed about myself?
  • How do I feel I am contributing so far? Where do I see my contribution? How can I contribute more?
  • What values or customs in the host culture do I admire? What can I still not get used to?
  • What’s one concrete example of a challenge I handled well? What have I learned from it?
  • What feedback have I received, and how have I applied it?
  • What skills have I developed or strengthened since the start of the project?
  • What acts of solidarity - big or small - have I taken part in?
  • How is my presence supporting the community, team, or project?

Feel free to answer in your own way - through writing, drawing, a short recording, or whatever method helps you reflect. If a question stands out or you want to explore a theme more deeply, you can use one of the suggested reflection methods for this stage.

Ask yourself “What do I need right now?” and choose a method if you want to explore deeper:
