Music says a lot - about how you feel, where you’ve been, and what’s been on your mind. Take a moment to reflect on your experience through the music you’ve listened to. Music helps you understand yourself in ways words sometimes can’t.
What you will need:
- A phone, tablet, or computer with access to a music app (Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, etc.)
- Headphones or speakers
- A notebook or blank sheet of paper to note down song titles and reflections
- A pen or pencil for writing notes
Step 1: Create your playlist
Think about the past week (or month).
Make a short playlist of 3 to 5 songs that stood out to you. They can be:
- Songs you listened to the most
- Songs that matched your mood
- Music you discovered in your host country
- Tracks that helped you feel grounded, excited, or comforted
You can use any music app for this, or note down the song titles.
Step 2: Give your playlist a name
What title would capture the mood or theme of your week? Something like: “Quiet Courage”, “Missing Home, Loving Here”
Step 3: Reflect on the music
For each song, ask yourself:
- Why did I listen to this? What mood or moment does it reflect?
- How did I feel when I heard it? (Energized, calm, overwhelmed, proud…?)
- Is this music from my culture or a new one? What caught my attention?
