After returning home, this is a good moment to look back at all the notes, reflections, drawings, voice recordings, and observations you’ve collected throughout your project. With some distance, you may begin to see your experience differently: certain moments become clearer, your learning becomes easier to name, and you notice how the project has influenced your attitudes, behaviours, and future direction. This phase invites you to make sense of your experience from the outside, connect what you learned to your everyday life at home, and recognise how the project continues to shape you even after it has ended.
Use the guiding questions below to explore this stage. They are here to help you understand what this experience means for you now and how it is influencing your next steps.
- How do I make sense of this experience now, with distance?
- How am I using what I learned about myself?
- What do I miss about the volunteer country?
- How has this experience shaped my thinking about diversity?
- What has surprised me upon my return? Can I observe some differences?
- Have I transferred anything I learned here into new contexts (study, work, activism)?
- What’s my next step for learning or growth?
- How have my priorities or perspectives changed after this experience?
- What attitudes or skills do I notice myself using naturally now, without thinking?
- In what ways do I see myself contributing differently in my community or relationships?
- What do I want to continue practicing or developing in the future?
You may answer these questions in your own way and follow your reflection notes. If you want to explore your learning more deeply, organise your experience, or connect it to your future pathways, you can choose one of the suggested methods below. This reflection will also support you in writing your self-assessment for the Youthpass, helping you articulate your learning in a clear and authentic way.
Ask yourself “What do I need right now?” and choose a method if you want to explore deeper:
| Purpose | Method | You will need: |
| To gather all my learning experiences | Harvest Time | |
| To turn learning into clear statements (Youthpass, CV, interviews) | Cheat Sheet | |
| To connect experiences to competences | Harvest Time | |
| To explore how my understanding of solidarity has changed throughout the project | Bridge of Solidarity |
Taking time to reflect after returning home helps you integrate this experience into your identity, your choices, and your future. Have fruitful reflection!
